The square in the neighbourhood of Rynek has been called Solny (Salt). Nowadays Solny Square is famous of the flower market. Flower pitches are open 24 hours a day, so all the people in love needing a romantic bouquet can be sure to get one. All the tenement houses around Solny Square have been recently renovated. All these buildings regained its brilliance from previous years, so now it is one of the most delightful places in the whole Wrocław. Colourfull tenement houses spread the unbelievable charm around. In the middle of the square there is a peaked monument with reference to Iglica ( almost 100 metres tall metal pole in front of Centennial Hall ) – a work of a contemporary artist. Just next to it there is a fountain. You can spot golden and silver coins at the bottom of the fountain – these coins represent all the people wanting to come back to Wrocław one day. Every now and then children chase away pigeons which fly up in the air above our heads. Solny Square is also a part of legends about historical undergrounds. They lie under Wrocław and they are apparently unbelievably extensive. We know as a fact that during Second World War there had been a shelter built for about 300 people, but it is still a mistery whether it is just an entrance to the main tunnels and chambers. It hasn’t been proved yet. Solny Square is one of the most important places in Wrocław. You can feel here the spirit of the city.
